Module 5 Blog: Digital Citizenship/Digital Democracy Digital storytelling is a method of telling stories utilizing digital tools/media to create a compelling narration that is both interactive and engaging. Digital storytelling can comprise of various forms, from something as simple and straightforward as a slideshow to interactive websites or multimedia presentations during symposiums/conferences. In the academic setting (education) digital storytelling is used to engage audiences in a more interactive and immersive way than traditional storytelling methods. M4: Intellectual Property and Copyright

As an adult who has lived through the transformative era of internet access and the advent of social media, I have a modicum of respect for creatorship, ownership of intellectual property, and respect for copyrights. I also can recall past actions of my generation when it involved adhering to copyrights, and our infringement of artist copyrights when we would illegally access and download music, movies, and literature from third-party websites due to our feelings of entitlement; free/open access to anything we desired. According to Goel (2022), as the level of Al use becomes more prevalent, and becomes more integrated into human society, it is crucial and pressing to create "systems" and "design" approaches for the usage of artificial intelligence. When we refer to systems, this entails a socio-technical system where Al tools collaborate with humans, aligning with human objectives, values, and norms. The goal of using artificial intelligence (AI) should always be...
Lack of Control over Personal Data User Security Concerns We may not have sufficient control over how our personal information is collected, used, or shared by online platforms. This issue highlights the importance of implementing strong security measures and being aware of potential threats when using online services. By 2025, around 85% of the world’s industrial data will be processed in the cloud. These existing models of ‘big data’ being stored via cloud storage lack the capacity for such a great demand on existing resources, thus this would necessitate the reliance on federated and brokerage cloud models. However, current federal models lack concise terms for “standardization, security, governance, risk, and control (GRC), trust, access management, incident response, and business continuity” (Dhirani et al., 2023). The concept of permitting corporate entities such as Apple, Microsoft, and Google complete access to our personal data ie media, and to house...
Subject: The Importance of Accessibility Design in Academic Institutions To whom it may concern/Institution President From: Theresa Morgan Date: February 18th, 2024 Disability is an inclusive term that encompasses impairments (cognitive and motor), physical limitations, and limitations that will affect one’s ability to participate in activities of daily living. Disabilities are complex, individualized, and not always visually apparent. Accommodations or necessary variations to programs/activities that prevent individuals with disabilities from being excluded, but rather included, and thus be welcome participants, should be mandated in all institutions. I believe accommodations should be reasonable, and not cost prohibitive. Accessibility is the ability to be a part of the community, to be able to fully engage, interact, and relate to those around us.  Accessible design is an important inclusion device that should be mandatory for this and every institution. As a s...

Module 1: Blog Post     As we continue to navigate the theme of ethical issues in the digital age, this week’s supportive research was completed after reading the text by Carrie James (2012), entitled “Disconnected: Youth, New Media, and the Ethics Gap”, and the works by three distinct researchers.  1. The theoretical analysis of controversial issues in digital media by Menses (2021). 2. A literature review of the concept of a “Digital Diaspora” as it pertains to migrants and new media was conducted by Andersson (2019).  And 3. A research study into “Identifying and Defining Values in Media Code of Ethics, was completed by Roberts (2012).  According to James (2012) “ethical, thinking requires a capacity for abstract, thinking, which typically develops in late childhood or adolescence”, and this era of digital freedom and exposure to society on a much larger scale for th...
